The Kids Are Not Alright…
The current COVID-19 crisis is exacerbating the gaps we have been working hard to fill with the development of quality mentoring relationships. As the most recent blog from renowned mentoring researcher Jean Rhodes reiterates, it is our “marginalized youth who are likely to bear the heaviest burdens of trauma and economic fallout.” The longer schools are closed and support systems are not in full operation, the further out of the mainstream our at-risk kids are falling.
Upper Cumberland Community Foundation Awards Over $4,000 In Grants To Local Communities
The Upper Cumberland Community Foundation is pleased to announce the success of their first grant cycle, which awarded $4,500 to local organizations operating within the Upper Cumberland region. Several applications were received and after much deliberation, three organizations were approved for $1,500 each. The three approved grantees include the Whitley County Farmers Market, the Appalachia Mentoring Project, and the Laurel County Literacy Council.
